Agentic infrastructure

Agentic development from my phone, on an always-on PC and AWS.

Success

The idea

Agentic development is often blocked for a simple reason: you don't have access to your development environment. When you're away from the desk, the agents wait too.

The solution

An always-on personal computer plus cloud infrastructure, built together to enable agentic development from anywhere. It's driven primarily by Claude and AWS, with Tailscale as the VPN layer that joins my phone, the PC and the cloud into one private network.

A personal app on my phone manages the PC's state, so I can see what's running and start or stop services without being there. When I need more than the PC, a development box on AWS sleeps when it's idle and wakes on demand.

The outcome

Success.

The core idea works. I was able to develop my personal game project, study AI engineering concepts and do essentially everything remotely, from my phone.

The learnings

What went right

  • A large part of AI engineering can be done without direct access to a computer.

What went wrong

  • Token burn was high. I was effectively developing something every hour I was awake.
  • I didn't properly understand the updates. Spending two to four minutes reading an update and then making a decision means you don't sit with the problems long enough.
